The 8 Things You Should Know Before Choosing A Deck Restoration Company

.

Some Of Our Specialty Services

Deck Sanding

Most times it’s best to sand your deck back and start again.

When we sand your deck, we knock down all nails and countersink every screw.

You won’t have to worry about the dust and mess. We capture as much dust as we can with our sanding bags and any dust that escapes, we vacuum up.

Timber Deck Restoration

Don’t know what your decking needs?

We do all types of timber deck restorations. We can come out and help you work out the best treatment for your deck.

Sometimes you can get away with a clean and oil, but sometimes it’s best to sand back and start again.

Either way, we can work out what’s best for you and your budget.

Deck Cleaning

If the coating on your decking is in good condition then most times, all you’ll need is a scrub and deck clean.

But don’t worry, we can protect your garden and lawn so they don’t get damaged in the process.

We also make sure that when we’re finised, the side of your home is also left clean and free from the dirt that blows off from your decking.

Deck Repairs

Sometimes, for whatever reason, some of your decking boards may be rotten or split.

We can restore your deck and replace only the boards that need to be replaced.

What we usually do is, sand, clean and oil your deck but leave the newly replaced boards to weather and darken up before we come back in 3 months time to clean and oil.

This way you’ll get a better match in colour with the older boards.

Deck Oiling

If you stay on top of your decking maintenance, then most times, all you’ll need is a clean and a coat of oil.

If your deck has no coating and is grey, you’ll also be able to get away with cleaning and 2 coats of oil.

That’s what I did with the decking above.

Deck Furniture Restoration

There’s a good chance that if your deck needs restoration, then your furniture could also benefit from sanding and oiling.

If you haven’t noticed your furniture looking worn out, once we restore your deck, your faded furniture will stand out like a sore thumb.

The 3 Vital Steps to Having a Decking

That won’t peel and fade in 6 months time…

When your decking peels and fades within the first 6 months after a restoration… It’s because your deck restoration company has messed up one or more of these crucial steps...

1. Thorough Preparation

Did you know that if you use the wrong sandpaper you close the surface of your decking boards, and stop the oil from penetrating deep into the timber?  The oil sits on the surface of your deck like a film that will eventually peel off...

Strip your deck off with a 40 grit sandpaper to remove the old coating, then hit it again with an 80 grit to smooth it off.

You should never sand your decking with anything finer than an 80 grit sandpaper.

And... one step that you need to make sure is included on your quote is a scrub and wash with a Brightener

The brightener helps to open up the surface of your decking boards and help it to absorb the oil.

This is only 2 of the vital steps that you need to make sure are included in your quote.

2. Careful Oiling

There’s a good reason why you should steer clear of any “deck expert” who uses a Lambswool Applicator...

The Lambswool applicator lays down too much oil and will dry on the surface like a film waiting to peel off

They should be using a Decking Brush to apply your oil or stain.

When you tell me “He applied 2 thick coats of oil and it still peeled”... This is exactly why your decking peeled… He should have applied the brush on, brush off technique with a Deck Brush instead...

3. Consistent Decking Maintenance

What would happen if you had your lawn cut one time then let it be for a couple of years?

Imagine cleaning your swimming pool only once a year…

A Deck Maintenance Schedule will keep your deck looking great and also protect it from the damaging dirt and grime that builds up over time

We recomend a scrub and clean every 3 months to help protect your decking and keep it looking great, then a re-coat at 12 months.

Deck Restoration Questions & Answers

How often should you oil a deck

Did you know that if you let your decking go for too long without oiling it you’ll have to sand it back and start again?

It’ll be your only option…

But what is too long and…

How often should you oil your deck?

How long does it take to sand a deck?

If you want to sand your deck and you were wondering how long it would take…

Then this guide will help you to work that out…

Let me explain:

Why We offer you a Free Decking Audit…

Not a quote…

 What’s the difference?

Well, a quote is when a company comes out to your home and takes measurements and asks you if you want them to sand your deck or just clean it.

They take the information and put it into a quote for you and send you a price…

A Decking Audit is when I come out to your home and I identify the current condition of your deck…

Then I perform a series of tests to determine the best way to restore your deck…

I test to see how your current coating responds to a series of cleaning treatments to see which one gives you the best results…

If the results aren’t that great, I test to see how the current coating responds to sanding…

I carefully sand a small section of your deck…

Just a side note… If you don’t like the idea of me sanding a small section of your deck, that’s ok. We don’t have to do it… just say you don’t want it. But this is the best way to get a complete picture of what your deck needs…

We discuss how you want your deck to look then I take all of this information and put together the best plan of attack…

You would call this a quote…

Here’s a breakdown of what your quote includes:

  1.  Deck cleaned, sanded and 2 coats of oil
  2. Plants covered and protected
  3. Home protected from chemicals and oil splashes
  4. Flexible and patient to get perfect weather conditions
  5.  All dust removed from home and windows after sanding
  6. All deck furniture removed and put back into place
  7. 6 months maintenance clean
  8. Maintenance and re-coat schedule with reminders before it’s due
