If you’re searching around the internet looking for the best deck stain remover, then this tell all article is exactly what you’ve been looking for…
Here’s what you need to know…
Like most deck products that I investigate and review for you, there’s no real “Best Deck Stain Stripper”…
There’s only the best for you…
The thing is, depending on the condition of your current deck coating and the type of stain used, the stain remover I suggest will be different…
And you also have to consider where you live in the world…
You see, if the deck stripper is really potent and can strip 20 years worth of stain off your deck, in most cases, it’s too dangerous to transport…
It’s also illegal to transport…
So it may be the best stripper but if you can get your hands on it, then it’s useless to you…
You need another option, right?
Ok, great…
So we’re on the same page…
I’m going to go through a couple of options for different situations where you’d need a stain remover and one of these should be the best one for you…
So with that in mind, finding the best deck stain remover or deck strippers as we like to call them, here’s 2 of the best that I recommend…
The best deck stripper if you’re in the USA…
If you’re in the USA, one of the best deck strippers would have to be R.A.D Wood Stain Stripper with the booster additive…
RAD has 3 different stain removers but this one is their cream-of-the-crop stain remover…
This is the one you buy when you need the big guns…
You know, when you’ve been staining your deck for the past 25 years and you know all too well how many coats of stain you’ve put on there…
Looky here, why would you get the plain old deck stripper when you can get the gel additive and the booster with it…
If I’m stripping a deck, I want the stain remover with the booster in it for sure…
The thing is, no matter how many times I strip a deck with a stain remover, there’s always some sections that just don’t want to come off…
Then I wonder if I’d just got the most potent stripper, would that stubborn deck stain have been removed?
I don’t like to wonder about “what if’s” so I recommend getting the good stuff right from the start…
This stuff will remove a few layers of stain at a time…
So the booster will increase its stripping power by 300%…
Think about how many layers of stain are on your deck if you’ve been staining it for 10 years…
That’s a lot of deck stain!!
Now with that said…
If you’ve got some really thick solid deck stain or possibly even deck paint that just won’t budge, then you should try the R.A.D paint stripper…
Do you see what I mean when I say that there isn’t one best deck stain remover?
The stain stripper with the booster could quite possibly be your best option, but if you have that really thick coating, you might need the paint stripper…
You just can’t tell until you try…
Anyway, you can mix up to 5 gallons of R.A.D stripper for as little as $39.99…
Then throw in the booster for $29.99…
And the best place to get it is straight from the R.A.D website…
Of course this is an American deck stain company…
That’s why I recommend it for you if you live in The USA…
Now let’s change pace a little bit now and move Down Under…
This is a place I hold near and dear to my heart, in that I live in Australia…
So let’s now look at…
The Best Deck Stain Remover in Australia…
Being that I strip and stain decks for a living, I’ve been through this whole search myself…
I used quite a few different stain removers and had varying success…
Some are great but just not cost effective…
Others are really friendly on the wallet but just don’t live up to the hype…
Enough rambling on, let’s get straight to the point…
I recently had the best deck stain remover actually land at my front door…
Literally…
A sales rep from an Aussie deck stain company found me online and dropped off some samples at my front door…
If any other companies are reading this and you want to drop me off some samples, my address is 465 Fin…
No, I’m just kidding…
Well kinda…
Anyway, this company is called Equisol…
And one of the things that really impressed me was their deck stain stripper…
You see, they have 2 levels of stain remover…
The first is what they call, Equisol Strip and it rivals pretty much every other stripper on the market…
It’s the real deal…
You can get 5 litres for $176 straight from their website and they can ship it out to you anywhere in Australia…
Now the thing that really impressed me was their next level of stain remover…
This is the Grand Puba of deck stain strippers…
This is the King of stain removers…
It’s the creme de la…
Ahhh, you get the point…
Anyway, this stuff is so strong that it will remove layers upon layers of deck stain in a single application…
They call this one, XCoat…
And this stripper is so potent that they can’t actually transport it…
Bummer hey?
Well actually, if you want to get your grubby little hands on the best deck stripper in town, then you can order a 15 litre tub for $607 and a friendly rep at the company will deliver it out to you in person…
You just need to call them before you place your order…
I suggest you go to the Equisol website and order some XCoat right now…
Now I know you came here for the best deck stain remover but sometimes you don’t actually need a stain stripper…
Sometimes you just need a less potent, less volatile, much cheaper product such as a deck cleaner…
It all depends on the condition and coating on your decking…
And I don’t want you to buy a stripper if you don’t need one, that’s why we’re going to dig in a little deeper and show you some instances when you’ll need a cleaner instead of a stripper…
Let’s get to it…
The best deck stain remover when you don’t need a chemical stripper…
If you have a really old deck stain that has almost worn off or if your deck is coated in an oil based deck stain like Ready Seal, then perhaps all you need to remove it is a potent deck cleaner…
This is a deck cleaner from Equisol…
It’s called Equisol Prime and it’s designed to remove oil based deck stains…
You know, the ones that fade off over time…
If you have a water based or film forming stain on your deck, then this one won’t work for you…
It has to be an old faded, oil based deck stain…
All you need to do is wet your deck down, scrub this cleaner into the surface and let it sit there for 20 minutes…
Then all you have to do is pressure wash it off…
All your deck stain should be gone…
No stripper required…
You can order a 4 litre tub of Prime straight off the website for $77.00…
Again, this is an Aussie brand so if you’re in the States, you can try a deck cleaner like this one…
Defy Wood Cleaner is an oxygenated bleach which is exactly what you want from a deck cleaner…
The 2 lb container makes 5 gallons and it only costs $25.80…
Now remember that both of these products are not stain strippers…
But they can remove an old and faded, oil based deck stain from your deck…
For $25, it could be worth a try just to see if it works before committing to a high powered deck stain remover…
Just a suggestion…
Anyway, I think I’ve given you enough to chew on for a while…
I’m gonna have to leave you here for today…
Don’t look sad, there’s so much I can show you about sanding and so, so much I can show you about staining decks…
I’ll be back…
And when I do come back, you better be ready…
Until then…
I’ll see you on our next adventure
Peace,
Jason
